About

Walker County was established in 1846, named for Robert J. Walker (1801–1869); officially renamed after Samuel Hamilton Walker (no relation) (1815–1847), a Texas Ranger and soldier in the Mexican–American War, and carved from Montgomery County. It is one of the 254 counties of Texas, located in the East Texas region.
