Roberts County was established in 1876, named for John S. Roberts, a signer of the Texan Declaration of Independence, and his brother Oran Milo Roberts, attorney general for the Republic of Texas and the seventeenth governor of Texas, and carved from Bexar County. It is one of the 254 counties of Texas, located in the Panhandle region.
