Fisher County was established in 1876, named for Samuel Rhoads Fisher (1794–1839), a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and secretary of the Navy under the Republic of Texas, and carved from Bexar County. It is one of the 254 counties of Texas, located in the Central Texas region.
